All white Chora walking tour (2-3 hrs.)
Its one of the most photographed and famous towns in the world! Mykonos town or else called (Chora) meaning town in Greek.
Its white houses basking in the warm sun of the cloudless Aegean sea with its long dry summer temperatures.
The architecture many times looking like its made out of clay with its picturesque winding flagstone and decorated little streets.
The town stands like a white gem on a little peninsula with its own little harbor. It used to be fortified offering little protection from the pirate raids and invasions.
This is where the early tourist days of Mykonos started when the first celebrities visited the island!
Its maze like little streets still get visitors lost as they did back then.
On our tour we will make these streets fun, exploring the hidden ones taking us deep into the town where some of the most unique pictures of the untouched by the crowds parts of the town are and where traditional life still goes on!
Countless beautiful little Greek Orthodox chapels each one completely different and original in itself. We will be going into some were I will reveal their purpose and how they function.
Of course we will be going thru the most famous streets and “ avenues” filled with shops and people and right in the center of town are the three wells were the whole town used to get water from.
From that spot you will start to get an understanding of how this maze like town that never sleeps functions and its important historical past before it became famous.
One of the most photographed and iconic spots of the Island are the windmills .They will be our next spot where millions of tourists take pictures of the sunset while little Venice facing the windmills turns on its lights with all its little bars and restaurants.
We will look into why these mills were so Important for the town as we will make our way onto the so called little venice where the wealthy merchant houses still stand right over the water similar to venice.
As we head to the northern most tip of the town we come across another iconic symbol of Mykonos town! Paraportiani church , the all white church in really original and unique church style from the 16th century. On our last discussion before walking to the old port where our tour ends ,I will make sure we tie all the ends so that you have a clear view of the towns set up , the routes we took and of course its history, architecture, and development into the cosmopolitan world famous destination that it is today!
Let's stretch our legs and walk!
A town only accessible on foot with no public cars allowed to enter the pedestrian town!
