A walk through history (3 hrs.)

Delos a UNESCO site. An Island archeologically protected. A walk thru history, thru its glorious past!  A place that will never seize to impress its visitors.

It turned into an island of great wealth a major trading post of the ancient Greek and Roman world . All this has been excavated in its original state with slight restorations ,it is the best preserved ancient Greek city that we have. It  is there protected for the visitor to see and wander thru today!

The whole island is a museum where only archeologists and guards allowed to stay on the island overnight .

The longest on going excavation in Greece for over 200 years of archeological finds .

Things will come to life as we will be walking thru this islands original ruins , going thru its residential areas were we will see all the sophisticated techniques of how they collected and channeled their drinking water into cisterns. Their advanced sewage systems and building techniques.

We will go into mansions of the rich from the 3d-2rd centuries BC and see original ornately decorated mosaic floors depicting gods ,walls that still hold their fresco colours, and  statues of merchants. The architecture surrounds us and I have details to point out and talk about on every square block as the residential area takes us to a place of public gathering the public water reservoir and the magnificent theater from the 3rd century BC said to have had a capacity for up to 6500 people. There we will have a seat in the first row  and I will try to make it come to life again in the ways it was used  back then!

As we make our way out of the residential area we will walk thru Agoras ,market places ,where goods were traded and where banks were located, and what was believed to have been the stock market. We will see the temples of the Gods and where the offerings were left by pilgrims in their honour!

Before we arrive at our refreshment spot and bathrooms and the museum  ,we will have the chance to see the sacred lake where the birth of the gods  took place and the famous lion sculptures still stand protecting it.

As we walk back to the pier were the boats are docked you might feel a bit tired from our walk with all the knowledge you will have received going back 5000 years but visually you will be amazed having been able to see the ruins many of which  are in excellent condition and all this will have chronologically become connected in your mind as I will try my best not to let  you leave with any unanswered questions lingering  and with the best of vibes to take with you!

Why does it impress?

Because its unique! The birthplace of gods  Apollo and his twin sister Artemis who are said to have been born there! A place of great worship with kings and pilgrims leaving their offerings to the sun God!
